Addis Ababa City Food and Drug Authority Addis City Branch Office, Woreda 1, Bale Tera Special Area, announced that 25,000 kg of spoiled dates worth 10 million birr that were to be sold were seized and seized.
Branch Office Manager Mr. Selam Nuri explained that the discovery was made during a regular inspection, that the dates were spoiled due to storage problems, that the dates were infected with various insects including mold and were not fully usable, so the products were packaged and will be disposed of in a landfill today in cooperation with the police and the government.
Mr. Selam added that the office follows a timely risk-based control system and that it is a regular control work carried out to ensure the quality of dates, considering the upcoming Ramadan fast.
The branch office’s control expert, Ato Endashaw Mekonnen, explained that the discovery was made during a regular control and that the owner was not licensed or licensed to distribute dates, and that the product was easily damaged and did not meet the standards, so the product was completely damaged, moldy, and infested with various insects.
The expert also explained that the owner of the product is being investigated by law.
Finally, he called on the public to verify the safety, quality, and service life of the product they are purchasing and to assist the control by calling 8864 toll-free or visiting the office in person.
