Over 1,000 indigent people received free medical services during a 90-day voluntary program in Akaki Qaliti.

During the winter months of 2018, a 90-day voluntary program provided free medical services to economically disadvantaged residents of the sub-district.

In partnership with 13 private health institutions, over 1,000 indigent members of the community received free medical services.

Various health services including eye, dental, internal medicine and skin care were provided free of charge under the program. In addition, the branch office has established partnerships with participating private health institutions to provide continuous medical services to 500 community members.

Ato Demise Gebrewold, General Manager of Akaki Qaliti Branch, who attended the program, said that since health service is a basic right that should be accessible to everyone regardless of economic capacity, the voluntary participation of institutions is of great benefit so that the vulnerable groups do not avoid medical treatment due to lack of money.

Ato Demise added that the free medical care that private health institutions are providing to the needy by sharing their professional, time and financial resources not only enables health problems to be identified and treated before they become serious, but also helps citizens with limited economic capacity to pay due attention to their health.

Therefore, beyond the regular medical services provided by health institutions, it was stated that the role they play in improving the health of the community and ensuring health equity is great.
