The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority conducted a performance review of its activities during the first half of the fiscal year with the Control Forum and stakeholders.

In the review, Ato Samson Legesse, a specialist at the Authority’s Planning and Budget Directorate, presented the key performance indicators of the institution during the fiscal year, the work done to ensure stakeholder participation, transparency and accountability, the disposal of expired food, medicine and health-related products worth 37,770,807 birr, the measures taken and other works for discussion.

The participants of the discussion also expressed their opinion that although the work done is good, more work needs to be done, that most grocery stores display packaged food and beverages on the outside, which are exposed to the sun, and that work should be done to bring about radical change in tobacco.

Finally, Ato Belayneh Gebru, the Manager of the Food and Drug Administration, and Ato Mebratu Ta'me, the Director of Service Delivery Monitoring and Evaluation of the Authority, responded to the ideas and comments raised from the floor and explained that it is necessary to work together in coordination, recognizing that health issues are of concern to everyone, that extensive work is being done to make the community the owner of control to bring about fundamental changes in food and drug control, and that the responsibility of block organizations is crucial in preventing illegal activities occurring in our villages and areas.
