Awareness training on tobacco and drug prevention and control was provided.

Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority’s Lideta Branch Office provided awareness training on tobacco and drug prevention and control to youth associations from all districts of the city.

Lideta Food and Drug Authority’s Ministry of Health Focal Person, Ms. Misire Abebe, stated that the awareness training aimed to help youth understand the various health risks caused by tobacco and drug addiction and to free themselves from addiction and to educate others.

The training was given by the branch's regulatory expert, Ato Getachew Murir, who explained the various health, social, and economic harms caused by tobacco, the factors that contribute to tobacco use, the fact that tobacco contains more than 7,000 dangerous and harmful chemicals, and solutions to the problem.

The participants of the training also said that the training was good, that students should be trained on tobacco in secondary schools, and that stricter regulatory work should be carried out since grocery stores sell fruit cigarettes.
