Strict Inspection Launched in 30 Selected Hotels Ahead of the 39th AU Summit

January 7, 2026 (Tahsas 29, 2018 EC)

The Addis Ababa Food and Medicine Authority (AAFMA) has announced the commencement of rigorous inspections across 30 selected hotels designated to host guests for the upcoming 39th African Union (AU) Summit.

As the permanent seat of the African Union, Ethiopia holds a unique responsibility in hosting high-level continental and international leaders annually. The Authority noted that these inspections are vital in maintaining the country’s positive image and ensuring diplomatic excellence.

Key highlights of the inspection include:

  • Scope: The crackdown covers 4-star and 5-star hotels among the 30 venues selected for summit participants.

  • Focus Areas: Special emphasis is placed on guest rooms, kitchen sanitation, food preparation areas, and overall service delivery standards.

  • Corrective Measures: The Authority stated that any gaps identified during the process are being addressed immediately through consultations with hotel management to ensure full compliance.

The monitoring process will continue until the conclusion of the summit. Its primary objectives are to protect guests from potential communicable diseases and to reinforce Ethiopia's pivotal role as the diplomatic hub of Africa.
