The Addis Ababa Food and Medicine Authority held a joint discussion with regulatory experts from the central office and the software development firm. The objective was to integrate the regulation of food, health-related products, and healthcare facilities into a digital system, thereby making services more efficient, simplified, and paperless.
Ms. Tigist Bedada, General Manager of the Authority, stated that the organization is actively modernizing its service delivery—aiming for a fully paperless environment—by developing and implementing digital systems for various services. She emphasized the necessity of incorporating the regulation of food, health-related products, and healthcare facilities into this system to streamline and simplify operational processes.
The General Manager further noted that this system must be implemented consistently across all levels, from the central office down to the branch offices. She highlighted that managing regulatory activities through a digital system not only improves data handling and enhances operational performance but also ensures the efficient use of time and resources, while fostering transparency and consistency in regulatory operations. Directions were given for regulatory experts and the developing organization to work in coordination, ensuring the system operates at full capacity, jointly resolving any emerging issues, and fulfilling their respective responsibilities.
Mr. Enga Erqeta, Manager of the Regulatory Sector, issued directives to ensure that the preparatory work for implementing the system is completed properly, that necessary technical training is provided to the experts, and that all required resources for the operation are made available.
Furthermore, he emphasized the need to expedite preparations for conducting regulatory activities through a digital system so that it can be put into operation, and urged that any challenges arising during the implementation process be addressed through collaborative effort.
