The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority, in collaboration with the Mathews Wondu Foundation, held a consultation forum with the heads of the relevant sector offices on tobacco.
In his introductory speech, Ato Wondu Bekele, the General Manager of the Mathews Wondu Foundation, stated that in order to achieve the development of our country and the vision of our Honorable Prime Minister, we must all change our strategies and work extensively according to the objectives of our institution and continue the change, and the government should be committed to this.
The changes and future directions of the work carried out by the Balestani Office are presented in detail in a document.
Experts from the Mayor's Office also outlined their role in promoting the work done and the change and set out directions for continuing the change.
Among the ideas put forward, they took it upon themselves to do extensive work to ensure that the coordination work is well supported by a checklist and is well managed and that it will also be part of the evaluation, that the control work is supported by the budget and that it is a discussion agenda on Golden Monday.
The Deputy Director of the Authority, Ms. Tagist Bedada, mentioned that the tobacco industry has made many sacrifices to protect the health of the community and that tangible changes have been seen. She said that the work requires strong leadership and attention to sustain this change.
Finally, the Deputy Director of the Authority's Regulatory Sector, Ato Enga Ereketa, stated that in addition to the regulatory work, the Authority will work extensively on awareness-raising activities, including the Mayor's inclusion in the checklist for institutions to fulfill their roles, strengthening the organizational work, and continuing the change, as the areas of focus.
