The Directorate of Supervision of Health Institutions and Professionals of the Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority shared the findings of the assessment with the branch office management and directorates, as well as traditional medicine experts, to improve the operation and organization of legal traditional medicine institutions in the city and provide better services to the community.
The Authority's Deputy Director General of Regulatory Affairs, Ato Enga Ereketa, said that it is important to support cultural medicine institutions as they contribute significantly to the medical sector. He stressed that many institutions are operating illegally and promoting exaggerated advertisements on various social media that deviate from our country's culture and traditions. He stressed that cultural medicine institutions should follow proper procedures and support research and development to grow the sector.
Extensive work has been done to empower the institutions to provide good services to the community by improving the operating methods of 103 cultural institutions legally registered with the Authority, focusing on hygiene and improper drug handling.
Finally, the authorities' top leaders should ensure that cultural medicine institutions meet the requirements set out in the regulations and improve their performance, that they should work separately on the types of cultural medicine services they provide, that they can promote and gain recognition in the sector by conducting research and maintaining the process, that they should establish accountability by carrying out legal work, and that they should work in an association.
