March 14/2018
The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority presented the audit findings report of the audit conducted in the health institutions and professionals qualification sector for the fiscal year to the branch heads and general council members for review.
The discussion forum was chaired by the Authority’s Administrative Sector Deputy Manager, Ato Fisa Abera, and the Qualification Sector Deputy Manager, Ms. Tegus Bedada. They stated that the documents issued by the health institutions and pharmacies in the 11 branches and the center for the renewal of the qualification were audited and that the audit was conducted to check the appropriate standards and that gaps that need to be addressed were found in the audit.
The findings relate to professional ethics, architecture, inclusiveness, and the quality of proper documentation and information management. These gaps are unacceptable in terms of national standards and the responsibility given to us to protect the health of our community, and we must correct them in our branches, he said.
The authority stated in the discussion that more than 3,000 health institutions and pharmacies were given new certifications in the 2018 fiscal year, and most of them were provided with services in accordance with the laws and guidelines set forth in the standard.
It was agreed that the gaps found in the audit should be corrected immediately.
The branch heads stated that the decision taken by the authority's management office to conduct its own operational audit will serve as an example to others.
They expressed their opinion that it should be continued in other sectors, and that they would take corrective action in the institutions and professionals where the findings were found and that corrective action would be taken.
Finally, Ms. Tagist Bedada reminded all management and employees that the audit is part of the strategy that the authority has adopted to eliminate corrupt practices and actions, and stressed that such small gaps should be fought with great effort so that they do not obscure the good achievements and works of the authority, and that corrective action should be taken by the institutions and the parties that committed the mistakes.
