In the 2017 fiscal year, the authority inspected 31,788 food and health-related manufacturing and service establishments in its eleven branches and at the central level, as well as 3,499 health institutions and pharmaceutical retail establishments. In total, it inspected 35,287 food, health, and health-related and pharmaceutical retail establishments during the fiscal year.

The authority announced that it has taken administrative action against 2,045 food and health-related manufacturing and service providers that were found to be engaged in illegal practices and practices that could endanger the health of the public during its regulatory activities to protect public health. Of these, 1,676 institutions have been given written warnings to correct their problems, and 298 institutions have been temporarily closed to correct their problems, said Food and Health Supervision Director Ato Estefanos Getachew.
The director added that 10 institutions were found to be operating outside the scope of their licenses and qualifications, and that those without licenses were ordered to cease operations, and several institutions were fined for the problems they caused.

It is stated that the removal of spoiled and expired food, beverage, pharmaceutical and health-related products worth an estimated value of 200,232,844.83 birr that pose a threat to the public health of consumers is one of the activities carried out during the fiscal year.
