July 17 /2017 A.D.
Addis Ababa City Administration Food and Drug Authority, based on a tip-off from the community, conducted a surprise inspection at the Sileshi Building in Kirkos District 3, in order to verify the accuracy of the tip-off.
The emergency inspection revealed that the establishments were operating without a certificate of competency, baking bread in an unfinished and substandard building, lack of health inspection of experts, and baking bread in a combined bakery and residential building, which was not completely hygienic.
Based on the findings, the authority took action to completely stop the operation and sent samples of the bread and flour being baked and distributed to the Conformity and Standards Agency for examination by experts from the establishment.
The Directorate of Food and Health Supervision further stated that the establishment cannot provide services in its current state and that other necessary measures will be taken after the results of the samples are seen.
The official urges the community to report illegal practices in their area to the toll-free hotline 8864 and to stand by the health authority in preventing illegality.
