Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority (KOFDA) has announced that it has removed 90 quintals of pepper contaminated with high levels of aflatoxin from a store located in Kolfe Keranyo Subdistrict, Kolfe Multipurpose Shopping Center, Woreda 07, following a tip-off from the community.
Kolfe Food and Drug Authority (KOFDA) Branch Manager, Sr. Munira Negash, stated that 90 quintals of pepper, which were likely to cause harm to the community and were used for food, were removed in coordination with various stakeholders.
Mr. Munira added that the pepper product that was intended for consumption was tested and found to contain high levels of aflatoxin in the Ethiopian Standards and Standards Commission.
He pointed out that if the contaminated pepper were to be distributed to the community, it would cause various health hazards. He also urged the community to protect their health by purchasing quality and safe products for all edible products they purchase. He also sent a message to the community to strengthen their usual cooperation by calling the toll-free number 8864 to jointly prevent such illegal activities.
