Yeka Food and Drug Branch Disposes of Expired Products Worth Over 28 Million Birr

The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority of Addis Ababa has disposed of spoiled and expired food, medicine and related products worth over 28 million birr to protect the health of the community in the 2018 budget year.
The office has carried out work to ensure the competence of 1836 food and 280 health institutions during the fiscal year. It has been able to conduct monitoring and control for 4417 food and health institutions and 1269 health professionals, and it has informed stakeholders and the business community that during the fiscal year, written warnings were issued to 286 institutions and measures were taken against 13 institutions.
In addition, during the fiscal year, it was possible to dispose of spoiled and expired food, beverages and medicines worth an estimated value of 28,644,427.47 birr to protect the health of the community.
The Director of the Authority, Dr. Mulu Imebet Tadesse, indicated in her work direction that there is a need to work to correct the gaps in products exposed to sunlight, that food service providers and health institutions should take responsibility and provide better and better services to the community, and that institutions should conduct online qualification renewal in a timely manner.
Finally, certificates of recognition were given to the owners of food and health institutions that achieved the best performance.
