July 29/2017
The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority announced that, following a tip-off from the community, illegally slaughtered animals whose safety and quality were not verified were seized and destroyed, and action was taken against the individuals who committed the illegal slaughter.

The authority’s Food and Health Control Directorate, Ato Estefanos Getachew, of the Kirkos Food and Drug Branch Office, said that during a strict surveillance conducted by the Federal Security and Police, action was taken against individuals who were found illegally slaughtering three bulls worth an estimated 200 thousand birr in a private home on July 19/2017.

Ato Estefanos added that the perpetrators of the act did not have a business license or a certificate of competency, and the organization of meat slaughterhouses whose safety and quality were not verified was seized and destroyed, and the perpetrator was taken to the police station with his accomplices and their distribution truck.

In addition, Ato Estefanos urged the public to always provide advice to eliminate illegal activities in every area for the sake of public health. He stated that illegal animal slaughtering is carried out in unhygienic conditions, and that untested, sick and dead cattle can be slaughtered, so the public should take appropriate precautions. He also conveyed a message that the public should strengthen its cooperation by providing advice on the authority's toll-free line 8864.

Protecting the health of the community is our priority!
