The authority is conducting control and prevention activities to protect Addis Ababa city residents from tobacco smoke and related harms and to make it a comfortable and healthy city for its residents.
In this regard, in the 2018 fiscal year, let's expose the methods that are harmful to nicotine and tobacco addiction!!'', it is conducting awareness-raising campaigns in the city in line with the World No Tobacco Day, which is celebrated under the theme Since the Authority began its tobacco control campaign in Gezi, many institutions have become smoke-free, retail stores that used to sell tobacco have recognized the health risks and have decided not to sell illegal tobacco in compliance with the law, the community is demanding that the manufacturer close down, model villages are being created, and many public gathering places and facilities have become smoke-free are all encouraging changes recorded in the control work.
Therefore, in order to continue the change and to ensure that the Authority achieves the national health program set to reduce non-communicable diseases and deaths related to tobacco, it is conducting campaign activities in all branch offices in the city.
He informed the center and branch experts that they have planned to organize various discussion and training forums at the center and branches during the campaign from March to May, conduct day and night inspections in coordination with stakeholders, hold exhibitions and drive-by messages, identify and visit model block villages, conduct street performances involving the city's youth, highlight the day in schools, and issue press releases to various media outlets to raise awareness and implement the seriousness and harmfulness of the problem to the community.
The Deputy General Manager of the Authority's Regulatory Sector, Ato Enga Ereketa, called on all citizens, especially youth, institutions, and the business community to work with the authority to reduce the harms associated with tobacco in order to continue this encouraging change.
